Plain (the Low-Rhine)

Plaine is a common French, located in the department of the the Low-Rhine and the area Alsace. It belongs to the Canton of Saales and the Arrondissement of Molsheim.
Geography
Located in the middle of the valley of the Beetle on the southern slope of the solid mass of the Donon, in extreme cases of the department of the the Vosges, the village counts 1000 inhabitants (2007).The habitat there is very dispersed with the hamlets of Champenay, Poutay, Diespach, In front of-Fouday. The commune is served at the same time by the train with the line FOR THE THIRD TIME Strasbourg - Molsheim - Saint-Dié and by the bus with line 270 (Saint-Blaise-the-Rock - Champenay).
History
The first mention of Plain appears on a confirmation of the goods of the abbey of Senones, in 1123. In 1598, the Round of applause-of-Plain, current communes of Plain and Saulxures, is divided: Plain falls to the rhingrav Frederic, whose son is the first prince of salm. In 1751, during the creation of the autonomous principality of Salm by new division, Plaine remains one of the four chief towns of this small state. The annexation of the principality by France, in 1793, place la commune in the department of the Vosges, from where it is detached by the treaty of Frankfurt. Since 1871, Plaine is thus Alsatian.
The round of applause of Plain belonged formerly to the Principauté of Salm. The village was crossed by " The Road of Princes" on the blank of the Coast of Plain (807m). Some vestiges of this road which connected the principality in Alsace are always visible. Typical village of the Area with beautiful houses " grange". Nicely flowered in summer.
Seriously touched during the war of 1914, the destruction of the church (18th century) testifies to the violence of the confrontations. This one was altered in 1920 in a style “church barn”.

Plain has from now on a regional radiation and is placed comfortably at the row of village of culture. Indeed these last year various the action of culture proposed by associations propelled the village towards an attractivity and a popularity, which is rare in a village of this size. Several associations are present today and does not count less than 200 people: Piénérées, ACES Plain, Antidote, the Weights are Volants (Teenager and adults), Danse Modern Jazz, Gym… and animations are increasingly more numerous: Lotto (every 2 years), Festival of the friendship, Strolls with Pierre de Lune, Fête Music, Brimbelles, Festival Plainitude, Fête of Christmas, stage performances and dance, and well of others still… The great resource is the forest. Career of likings: the sandstone of pink Champenay of color veined of white, great quality, it is particularly appreciated sculptors. Moritz… Plain has many lodgings and house of hosts, as well as a summer camp " Genévriers" and a VVF " Plain them Old Champs" who includes/understands a swimming pool and close to the hiking roads what makes this old rural district a holiday resort.After the candidature and designation of the village, Plain to the privilege to accommodate " The Congress of Montagne" the week from October 22nd to 27th 2007. The commune will amongst other things accueilleura Mr. JL BORLOO and Mr. X BERTRAND like all the elected officials of Mountain.
