The plague of Justinien is a Pandémie of Peste which prevailed between 541 and 767 in all the Mediterranean basin, with a paroxysmic episode until in 592.

The epidemic began in Ethiopia, devastated several time the Italy, the Mediterranean coasts, went up the the Rhone and the the Saone, reached even the Ireland and the Great Britain.

Gregoire de Tours speaks about them several times in its Histoire about the Francs . He quotes it with Arles in 549: “This province is cruelly depopulated” , with Clermond in 567: “certain Sunday, one counted 300 corpses in the cathedral” .

During the winter of 589, the plague of Justinien struck Rome heavily and when the pope Pélage II, reached in his turn, died on February 8th 590, the terror of the Romans was with his roof.

Certain sources speak about 100 million victims.
