General observations

Fifteen of the 64 deputies (23,4%) were elected for the first time at the time of the last election. The seniors of the Room are the liberal Albina Guarnieri and Diane Marleau, both elected for the first time at the time of the election of 1988. The néo-democrat Dawn Black was also elected for the first time in 1988, and was demolished at the time of the election of 1993. It regained its seat at the time of the last election.

History

The deputies who currently sit constitute the third of all the 190 women having ever sat at the House of Commons of Canada.

The percentage of women is remained about constant since 1993.

By province

One immediately notes an quasi-absolute deficiency of deputies in the four Atlantic Provinces (1 woman out of 34 seats, or 2,9%), while the best percentages among the provinces are with the Quebec (almost 30%), with the Manitoba and in Colombia-British.

By party

23,3% of all the candidates and 24,8% of the candidates of the four parties having gained a representation at the Parliament were women.

The NPD nominated the greatest proportion of women; more of the third of the candidates néo-democrats were women, and almost the third of all the candidates to the election was néo-democrats. Moreover, the néo-democrats had a greater proportion of elected deputies than candidates, indicating that the NPD put women in counties with strong possibilities of gaining. With more than 40% women, it is about the Caucus with the most important proportion of women having ever had the statute of official party to the Room. 18,8% of the deputies are néo-democrats while the NPD holds only 9,4% of the seats.

However, they was the women bloquists who were likely greatest to be elected; almost three quarters of the candidates bloquists were elected, since the Block is presented only to Quebec, the 50 deputies and deputies bloquists represent a total chance of 66,6% that a candidate bloquist had to be elected.

26,6% of the deputies are bloquists although the Block holds only 16,2% of the seats.

As regards the gaining party, only 12% of the candidates and 11% of the elected preserving deputies were women; 21,5% of the deputies are the preserving ones in a dominated room with 40,6% by this party.
