Place Saint-Pierre
The place Saint-Pierre is a large esplanade located in front of the Basilique Saint-Pierre, with the the Vatican, in Rome (). It is one of the most famous places of the world. It is here that the catholics are held to receive the blessing of the pope at the time of great religious holidays.
The place has imposing dimensions. In its center is, like often in Rome, a obelisk. The colonnade which surrounds it is the work of the Bernin.
It was ordered by Alexandre VII with the Bernin which found a solution urban and elegant symbolic system by designing a colonnade which deviates since the basilica as two arms which would accommodate crowd.
