Place Saint-Michel

The place Saint-Michel which goes back to Napoleon 3 is located in the Latin Quarter, between the 5 {{E}} district and the 6 {{E}} district with Paris, in France (). It was created at the time of the opening of the Boulevard Saint-Michel, in 1855.

The monumental fountain was carried out by Gabriel Davioud in 1860. The preliminary draft comprised a statue of Napoleon i. Finally, it is a statue of holy Michel embanking the dragon which was chosen, work of Francisque-Joseph Duret, framed of two spitting water dragons.

In August 1944, of sharp combat the students of the Résistance to the Germans opposed to it. The Pont Saint-Michel builds with the XIVe century, was remade at the same period as the place.

Panorama

Since the place Saint-Michel, one can see part of the monuments of the island of the City: law courts decorated with four allegories of the Justice (of which naked truth), a rather naked frontage of the police headquarter and Notre-Dame de Paris.

It is around the place that is developed and extended on several stores the bookstore Gibert Jeune, based in 1886 per Joseph Gibert on the Saint-Michel quay.

On the place was the Caveau of the gold Sun, with the site of current Café of the departure.
