Synopsis

D' Artagnan leaves its native village in Gascogne to go to Paris, in order to join the Company of the Musketeers or the Guards of the Cardinal. On its arrival, he quarrels with Athos, Porthos and Aramis, and causes them in duel. Per hour of the appointment, they are disturbed by the Guards of the Cardinal, applying the prohibition of the duels issued by the King. Making face in concert, they become finally friendly and take for currency “for all, all for one”.

Thereafter, in its tour to become musketeer, of Artagnan will meet Constance, chambermaid of the Reine, and will be brought to fulfill a mission for the Queen, that to recover the tags which the latter offered to the duke of Buckingham, then Prime Minister of England.

Comments

For the majority of the fans of Alexandre Dumas, this animated series is by far their preferred version. Although it was initially conceived for the young people (between 12 and 15 years) in order to initiate them with the French literature with a key of comedy, the history of the cartoon is rather complex and enough door to like oldest, because all the principal elements of the novel are present: plots, treason, murder, etc

For the romantic hearts, the love is one of the main themes exploited in this history in a way generally more optimistic and idealist that in the novel of Alexandre Dumas.

What is also interesting, it is that D' Artagnan, which is a carefree teenager, fanfaron and stuffed hormones at the beginning of the history of the series, becomes much more mature as time passes. He saw mishaps which very deeply run up against its feelings and its convictions and which does not pouvent to make differently than to make it grow. And we cannot not like it more with each episode so much this character becomes attaching: full with kindness, compassion and very rare sensitivity at a teenager of 15-16 years.

Differences with the book

In the cartoon, Aramis is a woman who disguises herself. The love of Aramis for arts and its delicacy in the original novel perhaps influenced the producers. That will make it possible to add a intringue in love to the history and thus to make increase the popularity of the series.

the adventure of the Masque of iron is held only a few months after the end of the preceding part, whereas Alexandre Dumas separates them twenty years.

Constance is not the woman of Bonacieux in this version, but well her daughter what will largely facilitate the vision of the producers on the love affair between it and D' Artagnan.

D' Artagnan is much younger in the cartoon than in the novel: it is just 15 years old in the first part of the series.

a new character makes his entry to replace Planchet in the other versions of the novel: Jean, child a nine year old who seeks his removed mother a few years ago to have to help a Protestant.

a film, new in France, was produced: the Adventure of Aramis ( Aramis No Bōken ) which is also in two parts: the past of Aramis then the history presents which is one year after the last episode of the series. One can thus consider that the film is the obvious result of Under the sign of the musketeers . Interesting fact in connection with film: D' Artagnan respects its promise made towards Constance in the series and returns to France.
