Its life and its work

Bogdani was educated according to the traditions of the Catholic church, to which it dedicated all its energy. His/her uncle Andrea or Ndre Bogdani (~ 1600 - 1683) was Archevêque of Skopje and the author of a Latin grammar Albanian, now lost. One believes that Bogdani was initially educated by Franciscain S with Chiprovtsi (today in Bulgaria), then in the college illyrien of Loreto (Italy), like his predecessors Pjetër Budi and Frang Bardhi. Of 1651 with 1654, he was priest with Pult and of 1654 with 1656, he studied with the Congrégation for the evangelization of the people to Rome, where he was doctor in Philosophie and Théologie. In 1656, it became bishop of Shkodra. Moreover, he was the administrator of the Archbishop's palace of Antivari (Bar) until 1671.

During the tumultuous years of the war turco - Austrian, 1664 - 1669, it took refuge in the villages of Barbullush and Rjoll close to Shkodra. In 1677, it succeeded his/her uncle as archbishop of Skopje and administrator of the Serbia.

Its religious and patriotic enthusiasm made of it an enemy of Turkish and it had to flee in Raguse (Dubrovnik), then with Venice and Padoue, carrying its manuscripts with him. In Padoue, it was accepted by the cardinal Gregorio Barbarigo (1622 - 1697), for whom it had already worked in Rome. The cardinal was responsible for the Eastern ecclesiastical businesses, and it was thus interested by the Albanian culture. Moreover, it had founded a printing works with Padoue, the Tipografia del Seminario , with pig iron and cast iron Hébraïque S, Arab S and Armenian born.

After the publication of Cuneus Prophetarum , Bogdani turned over in the Balkans in March 1686; it spent there the following years in resistance against the armies of the Ottoman Empire, especially with the Kosovo. It came with a force from 6.000 Albanian soldiers to support the Austrian army which had arrived at Priština, and they accompanied it until Prizren. They were overcome there there by another adversary, the plague. He died of this disease in December 1689 with Priština.
