Pittosporum pancheri

Pittosporum pancheri is a species of the family of the Pittosporaceae . She is endemic, like all the other species of the kind Pittosporum .

Aspect and general form

This plant is a small tree, in the shape of ball. Its Sève has a particular odor.

Cut

Its size is about that of a Gaïac. It seldom exceeds 5 to 6 meters height.

Sheets

The sheets are rather narrow and measure 10 to 15 cm length. Of a color dark green, they fine and are grouped on the branches with regular intervals.

Flowers

Of yellow color clearly, the flowers are grouped at the base of the sheets. They have the shape of tube.

Reproduction

The fruits are of color chestnut and are rather small (1,5 cm length on 1 cm broad). When they are ripe, they open into two and let escape from sticking seeds, even sticky (the word “pitto” means “adhesive” and the word “sporum”, seeds).

This species is common in all the dry forests of the Grande Ground in New Caledonia.
