Pittosporum is a kind including/understanding approximately 200 Espèce S of plants of the family of the Pittosporaceae .

The species are trees or shrubs from 2 to 30 m in height.

Certain species ( Pittosporum will tobira ) are cultivated for the ornament.

Anecdote

This kind is sadly famous: a species of Pittosporum which did not push that on the Lepredour small island in bay of Saint Vincent in New Caledonia had been listed in the years 1980 by the scientists of IRD, who had also underlined the extreme danger to which this forest dries was confronted because of a too great number of stags and rabbits. A few years later, the species of Pittosporum disappeared, in the general indifference, taking along with it part of the Biodiversité calédonienne. Since, a new foot of the plant was discovered and it was possible to reimplant the species: there is currently with the Forest Park within the framework of the safeguard of the dry forest.
