Pithiviers is a common French, located in the department of the Loiret and the area Center. Its inhabitants name the Pithivérien () S .
Geography
The city is located at forty kilometer in the north of
Orleans and eighty kilometers in the south of
Paris, between Beauce and
Gâtinais, in the valley of the
the Essonne.
History
It is initially a Gallic village (from where it draws its name), then Roman.
During the eighth war of religion, the city is taken by both Henri (the king of France Henri III and Henri de Navarre) in 1589.
During the Second world war, Pithiviers sheltered the Prison camp then a camp of transit before the departure for the concentration camps. to see the article Pithiviers (camp of transit)
