The Pirkanmaa (Swedish: Birkaland ) is the name of a area of the south-west of the Finland, pertaining to the province of Western Finland. It has as a capital Tampere.

Geography

The border regions are: in north the Ostrobotnie of the South, in the east the Finland-Power station, the west the Satakunta and the south the Kanta-Häme (more a few kilometers of border with the Finland of South-west since fastening in 2005 of the municipality of Punkalaidun).

History

This area is resulting from the oriental party of the historical province of the Satakunta combined with the Western fringes of the Häme.
