The video Game console Pippin was conceived by Apple and left in 1996.

Apple while having made an opened technology, it was built by various companies. The principal one was Bandai, which sold some nearly 45.000. It innovated while consisting of material elements and software coming from microprocessing. The idea was to create a computer dedicated to the video games, but having some characteristics of a desktop machine, of which navigation on Internet.

It included/understood:

  • material:
    • Processor PowerPC 603e (similar to those present in the Macintosh of the time) to 66 MHz;
    • reader of CD-ROM 4x;
    • extensible memory by a module of 8 Mo (in addition to the 5 basic Mo);
    • ROMANIAN Memory of 4 Mo for OS;
    • 128 KB of memory Flash;
    • videos out 8 and 16 bits (256 and thousands of colors) NTSC/STAKE and VGA; audio
    • entered and exits 16 bits;
    • 2 ports ADB (joystick, keyboard, numerical camera, modem, printer);
  • software:
    • a version reduced of Mac OS;
    • a possibility of programming the plays in Java;
    • a catalog of 20 plays only.

It ran up as of its exit against the competition of the consoles Nintendo 64, Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation, which dominated already the market, and had especially a catalog of plays much more important.

Pippin never had a great success.
