Pip II of Herstal or Pépin the Young person (towards 653 - December 16th 714) is Maire of the palate of Austrasie. He is the son of Ansegisèle (itself wire of Arnoul Saint) and of Begga, girl of Pépin Ier.
Land big landowner, it enjoys a great number of faithful which will make its force and that of his successors. He shows himself more careful than his uncle Grimoald Ier and does not try to place its family instead of the Mérovingiens.
But after the assassination of Dagobert II by Ebroïn, it takes the head of the aristocracy austrasienne. Against the hegemonic claims of the mayor of the Palate Ébroïn, it attacks the Neustrie and is made beat close to Laon.
After the death of Ébroïn in 681, it is reconciled with the mayor of the palate of Neustrie Waratton, recognizes for king Thierry III, then is scrambled with Berchaire, son-in-law and successor of Waratton, and definitively beats Neustriens with Tertry in 687.
Pip II then recognizes again Thierry III but is established as mayor of the Palate of the frankly whole kingdom, which it controls until his death. It then imposes the franque authority on the Alamans, the Frisons and the Franconiens, and brings its assistance to the first missions of evangelization into Germanic.
Its succession will be difficult, its sons Drogon de Champagne and Grimoald II having died before him: rather than her grandsons Thibaut, Arnoul and Hugues, than their grandmother Plectrude, it supports is an illegitimate son of Pip, Charles Martel, which will seize the power.
