The Pinta , literally " Painted the " , is one of the three caravel S of the first forwarding of Christophe Colomb in America, with Niña and the Caraque Santa Maria, which will discover the first road return ticket between the New World and the Europe.
It could count to 30 men of crew, moving 75 " tonneaux" weight.
The caravels belonged to technology protected by a secrecy from State in Portugal because according to the will of the king D.João II, these ships could not beings sold or lent the abroads without his authorization.
Paradoxically, under the command of the captain Martin Alonso Pinzón, it left the port of Palos of Frontera the night of August 3rd, 1492. Little time after, on its arrival in the Canary islands, it must repair the tiller which had been uncoupled (Christophe Colomb thought that it was the owner who had sabotaged it to escape forwarding).
At 2 a.m. the October 12th 1492, it is since the Pinta that " is shouted; ¡ Tierra! " (by a young sailor of the name of Jonathan Tarot) with the approach of forwarding on the island of Guanahani.
It is also the first to bring the Spanish ground news to its return, arriving at the port of Bayona close to Vigo, the March 3rd 1493.
