This novel of Robert Blackbird, appeared in 1995, is the ninth volume of the historical series Fortune of France.

Thanks to the assassination of Concino Concini, the favorite of Marie de Médicis, Louis XIII finally seizes in hand the power and exiles his/her mother of the court of France. The hero Pierre-Emmanuel de Siorac, gentleman with the room of the king, who was recipient of the plot, will be reward while becoming count d' Orbieu.

This volume of Fortune of France describes the discovery of the new field of the hero and of course the intrigues of the court, in particular the rebellions of the large allies to the queen-mother. This period will be also marked by new revolts of the Protestants. Lastly, throughout this work, one sees to strengthen the capacity of the future strong man of the country, Richelieu.
