Pink Ouellette

Born the August 25th 1903 with Montreal (Canada), died the September 14th 1996 with Montreal.
Also known under the nickname " Poune" , Pink Ouellette is an actress, humorist and director of theater (burlesque) (Canada).

Biography

Childhood and beginning of career

Rose-Alma Ouellette is resulting from a poor and many family of the east of Montreal. 17 of his/her brothers and sisters died in low age, leaving him only 3 sisters reaching the adulthood. She leaves the school as of adolescence and works a few months in a factory of shoes (Duchess Shoes) to the corner of Craig and Beaudry with Montreal.

Attracted by the scene, it gains three contests of songs amateurs to Montreal in 3 weeks. After some supporting roles with the Ouimetoscope, Pink Ouellette is engaged by the actor and singer Paul Hébert to play King-Edward Theater of Montreal of the increasingly important roles. She was only 19 years old.

As of its first comedy, it was presented then, for the needs for the comic situation and because the phonetically funny names were with the mode, under that of “Pan”. A few months later, Pink Ouellette takes the name of scene “Poune” with the suggestion of one of his first partners, celebrates it Olivier Guimond, father. It suggests " Poune" because that rimait with its own name of scene, " Ti-zoune". Director of theater

In 1928, Pink Ouellette becomes director of the Cartier Theater to Saint-Henri and forms a troop of burlesque which counts in its rows Juliette Petrie, which will be its partner during several decades.

After eight years as director of the Cartier Theater, Pink Ouellette becomes, in 1936, director of the National theater. She there becomes a national celebrity and gains immense successes. During 17 years, crowd will press itself every evening with the doors of the National to hear Poune entonner her song-topic “It is of the fault with poupa” and to present, in numbers of comedy and song, new high-speed motorboats, of which Alys Robi, which made its beginnings there. All the large actors of burlesque of this generation played National theater directed by Pink Ouellette: Kneaded Juliette, Arthur Kneaded, Manda Relative, Hector Pilgrim, Georges Leduc, Simone Roberval, Paul Desmarteaux, Juliette Huot, Olivier Guimond wire and of Olivier Guimond, father, Paul Hébert and a little later Pierre Thériault, Jacques Norman, Lucie Mitchell, Léo Rivest and well of others.

In front of the competition of television, Pink Ouellette leaves the National theater in 1953 to join the troop of Jean Grimaldi with whom it will carry out, during a few seasons, of the rounds in all Quebec.

The burlesque one (kind especially made up of humorous monologs and impromptu sketches where stripping is excluded) dominates the scene of Montreal between 1920 to 1950. With the departure presented in English and heavily influenced by the American light comedy, the burlesque one owes its remarkable French success - almost exclusively with three interpreters who directed all of many troops of burlesques French-speaking people: Arthur Kneaded (husband of Kneaded Juliette), Olivier Guimond, the father (“Ti-zoune”), comic most popular of the time, and a little later, Pink Ouellette (“Poune”), who learns his art from Olivier Guimond, father and who will remain the large queen of the burlesque inhabitant of Quebec until the last moments on scene with the Théâtre of the Varieties of Gilles Latulippe.

The cabaret, television and the cinema

Very quickly, since 1953, one asked him to hold a small role in its first film, Cœur of mom

Then, in the middle of the years 1950, Pink Ouellette undertakes a career with the cabaret which will last more than twenty years.

Been unaware of a long time on television Québécois, it on television makes its beginnings in “ the Two Waltz ”, part of Andre Laurendeau presented by the SRC in 1960. Then it is found, the following year, in the humorous series “ TV-surprise ” (CFTM). Later, it holds of the episodical roles in the television serials “Dear Isabelle” (VAT, 1976-1977), “the Brilliance” (VAT, 1979-1982) and “the Sparrow and the Finch” (VAT, 1982-1985).

Theater, Pink Ouellette plays, in 1974, in One day, it will be your turn of Serge Sirois to the Théâtre of the New-World and, in 1981, with Réjean Lefrançois, in Boeing Boeing with the theater of summer of the Charron island. She was also very active during a score of years to the Théâtre of the Varieties.

With the cinema, it holds of the roles in the Appearance (1972) of Roger Cardinal and the Adventures of a young widow (1974) of Roger Fournier.

She takes truly her retirement only at age the 90 years. She dies in Montreal on September 14th, 1996.

  • In 1993, it was the spokesperson of a televised advertizing of the beer " The rousse" brewed by Molson. The slogan was " The russet-red one is soft! " referring to the fact that both were russet-red.
