She was the older sister of the actress Anna Chéri, also said Chéri Lesueur, and of the type-setter and leader Victor Chéri.

Biography

It resulted from a long family of artists and actors, since his/her grandfathers, Thomas Cizos, known as Chéri, born towards 1760, and “Garcin father” had founded, by linking their two families, a lyric and dramatic troop travelling, called “Garcin Cizos”, which traversed the departments of the Eure-et-Loir and the Loiret in the years 1820. This troop was announced everywhere by an exemplary behavior and a pace of more regular. These irreproachable manners were found at the two Rose sisters and Anna, which was all their lives of the piety and paragons of virtue.

His/her father, Jean-Baptiste Darling-Cizos, married one of the girls Garcin, Sophie-Juliette, of the same age than him. They had two girls and a boy. Rose and Anna were born, randomly from the peregrinations from the troop, both with Étampes, the first, Rose, in 1824, the junior, Anna, in 1826. Victor, him, was born with Auxerre in 1830.

Child of the ball, it was very early familiarized with the scene. Six years, she played already of the roles of child and interpreted dance numbers. His/her Garcin grandfather, excels musician, lavished to him lessons of song and piano, but the child was interested only by the comedy.

It was while playing Périgueux in 1841 (it was then 17 years old), that Rose pointed out herself by Loïsa Puget which made him obtain an engagement with the Théâtre of the Gymnasium to Paris. She was made there little by little know and appreciate. Théophile Gautier foot-note in 1842: “ This pretty beginner makes a success of much because it is simply a very natural young girl, and does not have too the air of an actress; it is rarest of the talents. ”…. The more so as this “very natural young girl” had played the comedy for more than ten years!
She was going to become the first actress of the Gymnase, engrossing the first feminine roles of the parts of Scribe, Alfred de Musset, George Sand and of Alexandre Dumas wire, which was played there.

Out of the Theater, it was a woman of a great piety. She asked for the archbishop of Paris the authorization of receive the communion which an intolerant priest refused to him because she was actress. She obtained it, like for her sister.
It was Scribe, which, while claiming to offer a new role to him (what was true in a certain direction), required of him its hand in the name of Adolphe Lemoine says Montigny, the director of the Gymnasium. She accepted, but to the advertisement of this news, his/her father, Jean-Baptiste, struck of a brutal mental derangement, threw themselves by a window and died. The marriage was delayed, and it took place on May 12th, 1847. Strange coincidence, a few weeks before, the Gymnase produced a comedy of Scribe a Woman who throws herself by the window , interpreted by her sister Anna.

She was an admirable woman, who sold her jewels when her husband knew a difficult master key, which looked after the casualties at the time of the events of June 1848 in the theater transformed into ambulance, and a little later, which took care her child harms and day, which caused its loss.

The Comédie-Française wanted several times to engage it. She always refused, undoubtedly because the Gymnase gathered its family, since were there:

  • his/her husband, Montigny, the director
  • his sister, Anna actress
  • her brother, Victor, which was there leader
  • his brother-in-law, Lesueur, actor
  • his father-in-law, the father of Montigny, cash clerk
She did not want to undoubtedly leave this theater either where she knew of so many successes. Alfred de Musset if was filled with enthusiasm by its role of Clarisse Harlowe, that it went to see it 30 times of continuation, and it wrote in October 1851 a part for her: Bettine , which however had only one success of estime.
It was partly thanks to its talent, and as with the skill of her husband Montigny, as the Gymnase could find its last vogue.

Just like his/her sister, old age marked it prematurely. Whereas at his beginnings, one called them sometimes, his sister and it, “the pretty pair of Cizos”, at 35 years, it appeared old. It had to give up certain roles, such that of Marie in Marie or the Three times of Marguerite Ancelot, where the features of its face swore as much as the representations had to be stopped.

His/her oldest son being reached of a diphteria, it took care it night and day in spite of the opinions of the doctors who feared the contagion. His/her son was saved, but it lost the life of it on September 22nd, 1861. Sink fate, this same child, a few years later, in 1878, outgoing of a theater, was made bite by a mad dog and died about it one month afterwards.
