Pink, pirates of the rain (Pink, Akira Toriyama, October 1982). Published for the first time by Fresh Jump' S and in French in 1998 by Glénat in Akira Toriyama Short Stories volume 2.
History
" Pink, pirates of the pluie" , is the history of an young girl who lives in a distant city. It does not rain there any more since more than one year. The company " Silver Company" , directed by a shark, ransom price has to with it sells, water become so rare. Helped Pink of Black, a small dinosaur, spends its time attacking the convoie water of Silver Company. Silver Company contacts the police force and thus the agent Bleu Night begins its investigation. The beautiful sheriff and the pretty robber make finally team and delivers the Devil of the Storm (the Devil of the Storm is that which makes rain. One also sees it in an episode of " Dr.Slump ".) that Siver Company had to sequester to increase the output of its business.
Analyzes
Realized in October 1982 for the magazine " Fresh Jump' S " , whereas it is into full in " Dr. Slump " , Toriyama starts a new graphic period slowly. It changes style. Humor is always present but it is now the action which precedes above all. One discovers little by little what one will call later " the world of Toriyama ". Like the air bike of Pink, for example, which resembles to mistake there with the future Jet Momonga of Yamcha in " Dragon Ball ". The decoration is close to that evoked in the adventures of " Pola & Roïd " and the characters of these two series have many common points. Our mangaka works out a cutting much more excavated where the rate/rhythm is faster, framings are more dynamic, confrontations are more violent. There is even a samurai! The topic of this history will be re-used in a manga in a volume published recently, entitled " SandLand ".
Adaptation
" Pink" will be adapted in Anime to the cinema in a " Toeï Animates Fair " special, rebatized for the occasion " Akira Toriyama - The World " in July 1990. Three medium-length films will be diffused there: " Dragon Ball Z - Ultimate Decisive Battle for Earth " , " Pink - Toilets Gangster, Rain Gangster " and " Kennosuke-sama " Literally " Animated fair of Toeï" , this spectacle proposes three twice a year animates different one fifty surroundings minutes duration by film. A good number of adaptation of mangas of Toriyama will be diffused there.
