Called chick chick (perfume of the perfumes) by the Amerindian , the pineapple ( Pineapple comosus ) finds its origin in South America, probably in north of the Brésil, or in Central America and with the the Caribbean.
Ananas comosus is the only species of the Ananas kind to being autostérile. The seeds are thus rare (one needs presence of two different varieties in the vicinity). This plant thus reproduces mainly by rejections (bulblets) extremely many on the plant. One can see on the photograph below a pineapple field in Mexico at the stage of the production of rejections after harvest.
The weight of the produced fruit depends completely on the weight of the foot at the time of flowering. All the art of the grower thus consists in making it “flower” at the good moment.
In nature the pineapple is pollinated by the hummingbirds. Small Graine S brown is formed then in the fruit. To avoid the presence of these seeds the farmers move away the hummingbirds from the plantations and prohibit of it the importation in the areas of the world where there does not exist, as in the islands Hawaii. The pineapple is more often multiplied by division of the rejections formed at the base of the plant or by Bouturage of the crown of sheets carried by the fruit.
