The pine of Bristlecone ( Pinus longaeva ) is a tree pertaining to the kind Pinus and to the family of the Pinacées.

One can find it mainly in the South-west of the United States. It is one of the organizations with greatest longevity. Certain pines of Birstlecone can reach almost 5000 years.

The oldest tree living known on Earth is Bristlecone named Mathusalem, which would have nearly 4700 years and is in California, its precise hiring remains however secret in order to avoid any act of vandalism. Another even the older, called Prometheus was cut down by error in 1964 whereas it was 4900 years old.

The reason of their longevity is the fact that these trees live with high-altitude, under a dry Climat and cold in winter. These trees adapted to this climate while developing only a few months per annum, which explains their forms particular and their small size for their age.
