Wilhelmus Simon Petrus Fortuijn , more known under the name of Pim Fortuyn , is a Politician Dutch, born the February 19th 1948 with Velsen (Holland septentrional) and assassinated by a radical ecologist the May 6th 2002 with Hilversum (even province).

Pim Fortuyn had studied the Sociologie with the Université of Amsterdam and became later lecturer in sociology with the Université of Groningue and the Université Érasme of Rotterdam.

Political course

Its political course was relatively atypical, since he was member of the Dutch socialist party, that he in vain tried to adhere to the Dutch Communist party and, at the end of his life, founded a populist movement (qualified Extrême right-hand side by some of its adversaries, labels that itself challenged formally).

The political positions that it took at the end of its life were marked by its hostility with the Islam and the non-European Immigration with the Netherlands. It based its speech on the argument of the cultural differences and the absence in will of assimilation on behalf of many immigrants, but it forever evoked criteria of Race. So Pim Fortuyn repeated with many recoveries that Elsevier it did not have anything commun run with parties usually classified with the Extrême right-hand side such as FPÖ in Austria, the National front in France or the Vlaams Blok (current Vlaams Belang ) in Flanders. He just agree to recognize like nationalist.

Its Homosexualité posted contributed moreover to keep it remotely many parties known for their programs stressing the defense of the family values.

The November 26th 2001, it was elected at the time of the legislative elections of 2002, as a chief candidate for the party Leefbaar Nederland , lately formed.

The February 9th 2002, it declared with the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant that sixteen million inhabitants in the Netherlands was a sufficiently raised figure of population, and that to accept each year the reception of 40  000 request asylums in the country was a policy who was to cease. He says moreover that in its eyes, article 7 of the constitution, which guarantees freedom of speech, was more important than the article first, which is opposed to any discrimination. He took care, on this occasion, to take his distances with the positions expressed in the Années 1980 by the Centrumpartij, which then preached the departure from abroad of the country, while itself estimated that as of the moment when those were sufficiently integrated, the question of their presence was not posed more.

In spite of these carefully phrased remarks, the Leefbaar Nederland declared that he would refuse from now on to make it be reproduced on his lists.

Taking note of this rejection, Pim Fortuyn, as of the February 11th 2002, founded its own party for the legislative elections, the Liste Pim Fortuyn ( Lijst Pim Fortuyn , LPF), movement which quickly joined of many members and sympathizers of the Leefbaar Nederland .

The section of Rotterdam of the Leefbaar Nederland made secession and kept Pim Fortuyn as leader. In March 2002, it gained 36  % of the seats with Rotterdam at the time of elections for the council of district, becoming thus the first party of the city after thirty years of domination of the social democrat party, returning this one in the opposition.

Its assassination

The May 6th 2002, nine days before the general elections, Pim Fortuyn was assassinated by Volkert van der Graaf, activist of Extreme left, militant of the animal cause, whereas it left the studios of one radio station to which it had just granted a maintenance within the framework of the electoral campaign.

This assassination caused a sharp emotion in the Netherlands entire, the queen Beatrix itself announcing its consternation. Perhaps partially influenced by the emotion caused by this assassination, the Dutch people granted 1  614  801 votes with the LPF, which allowed the election of twenty-six deputies the Lower House of the Parliament (either 17  % of a hundred and fifty seats of the assembly). The LPF became thus the second Dutch party.

Although integrated into the government coalition of Jan Peter Balkenende, the new Prime Minister Christian Democrat, the List Pim Fortuyn, deprived of its chief, entered quickly during a time of turbulences which leads a few months later to the dissolution of the Lower House. At the time of the elections of January 2003, the party undergoes a strong electoral backward flow and collected nothing any more but 549  975 votes (5,7  %) and eight seats, passing from the second in the fifth place, and thus joining the opposition. Its electoral fall continued, at the time of the elections of November 2006, with more any deputy elected with the 2nd room of the Parliament. In August 2007, was taken the decision to liquidate the LPF with the end of the year 2007.

In 2007 left a book Innate Veen, Meurtre in the name of the crown , giving a report on a police report evoking a second gunner at the time of the assassination. The author underlines the role of the Dutch special services and designates the silent partner: the royal family Dutchwoman.
