The Pilier of Eliseg ( Croes Elisedd in Welsh, Elise' S Pillar or Pillar off Eliseg in English) is a monument which is drawn up close to the abbey of Valle Crucis, in the Denbighshire (Wales).
The Pillar of Eliseg was set up under the orders of Cyngen ap Cadell, king of the old Welsh kingdom of Powys, in the honor of its great-grandfather Elisedd ap Gwylog. It is thought that the inscription Eliseg which one can find on the column is an error of the sculptor.
The inscriptions in Latin which are reproduced on the pillar mention several personality quoted in the Historia Brittonum. Moreover, they also refer to facts which do not appear in it. A translation of this text, one longest of the previous time the invasions Vikings in Wales is the following one:
Concenn its off Catell, Catell its off Brochmail, Brochmail its off Eliseg, Eliseg its off Guoillauc. And that Concenn, great-grandson off Eliseg, erected this stone for his great-grandfather Eliseg. The same Eliseg, who joined together the inheritance off Powys… out off the power off the Angles with his sword and with fire.Whosoever repeats the writing, let him give off has blessing one the drunk Eliseg. This is that Concenn who captured with his hand eleven hundred acres km ² which used to belong to his kingdom off Powys…

Conmarch painted this writing At the request off king Concenn. The blessing off the Lord Be upon Concenn and upon his entire household, and upon the entire area off Powys until the Day off Judgment.

The pillar had been cut down by the " heads rondes" (partisans of the Parliament) at the time of the English civil war (1642 with 1646) and falls it which was below was profaned. In 1696, Edward Lhuyd examined the pillar and copied the inscription. The lower part disappeared, but the upper part was set up again in 1779. Nowadays, the inscription which appeared in it became almost illegible.
