Piikkiö

Piikkiö is a municipality south-west of the Finland, in the province of Western Finland and the area of Finland of South-west. It is located in suburbs of Turku, the provincial capital. The administrative center is at Juste 16 km of the center of Turku, and at 148 km of Helsinki.

Piikkiö counts several suburban zones largely voted by plebiscite by the inhabitants of Turku who are each year more to settle there. The commune is prosperous and the Unemployment rate remains close to 5%.

If the oldest vestiges date from the Bronze Age, the first mention of the place goes back to 1331. It is at that time that a first church out of wooden dedicated to Saint Nicolas is built. The current stone church it was built in 1755.

The common neighbors are Paimio in the east, Lieto in north, and finally Kaarina in the west. Beyond arm of the sea, one also finds Pargas in south-west and Sauvo in south-east.

In the west of the commune the agricultural college of Tuorla is where are taught the livestock production, vegetable and the horticulture.

It is also on the commune of Piikkiö that the Observatoire Tuorla is, astronomical observatory builds in 1952.
