Pieusse
Pieusse is a common French, located in the department of the Aude and the area Languedoc-Roussillon.
Its inhabitants is called Pieussards.
Geography
Pieusse is in the south-east of Carcassonne and the North-East of Limoux to approximately three kilometers in direction of Saint-Hilaire and dominates the Aude which forms the limit of part of its territory. It is located on a hillock which dominates the valley of the Razès in north. This privileged place made it possible to establish a castle to with it to supervise the access towards the south. Towards the east, the hills are covered with Vigne S which produce the Blanquette of Limoux.The commune is served by the secondary road 118 which lead in Limoux and Carcassonne, the RD 504 which leads to Pomas and the RD 104 which connects Limoux to St-Hilaire.

Etymology and armorial bearings
The name of the village evolved/moved gradually. Initially, called Castrum Pincianum until in 1119, it named Punciano , Pinciano , Piussano and finally Pieussan Old the of 1253 to 1639. Castrum Puncianum would come from the name of the person Pincius having to create the field. Thus, the Castrum Puncianus of the Gallo-Roman time would be the town of Pincius or the fortified town of Pincius .The armorial bearings of Pious are léopardé money of mouths accompanied by three of the same crescents. . The communes of Alaigne, of Bize-Minervois, Gruissan, Routier have the same armorial bearings.
History
The history of the village of Pieusse goes up at the time Gallo-Roman E. Its name was then Castrum Puncianum . Its strategic situation on the hill made it possible to defend the access to the high valley of the Aude. At the 7th century, the village is demolished by the Sarrasin S and the strong Château of Pieusse is flaring. In 1119, a bubble of the pope Calixte II quotes Castrum Puncianum and ecclesiam . In 1221, the fortified town of Pieusse is taken by Raymond Roger, count de Foix whereas the field was under the suzerainty of Roger II, Viscount of Carcassonne. Between 1222 and 1225, in Pieusse, the council Cathare created the Évêché cathare of Razès and Monseigneur Richard Dillon, archbishop of Narbonne becomes lord and baron de Pieusse. He then becomes the owner of the castle in which he will hide his treasure there. In 1574, during the wars of religion, a troop armed with Protestants occupies the mill of Pieusse. The inhabitants then set fire to the mill to make them flee.
Economy and services
The inhabitants of Pieusse live Agriculture and more particularly of the Viticulture. Many owners hold some pieces of vine of which they bring the production to the co-operatives of Limoux. The majority of the active population is however workman and employee of industries and services of Limoux. Indeed, very few services are available to Pieusse because of its proximity with Limoux. The school and the town hall constitute the only public services available on the commune.

the Château of Pieusse was built around 1140 with 1145, under the reign of the king Louis VII the young person by the counts of Foix.
- the church Saint-Genoa dating from XIe century,
- the church rural of Saint-Andrew dating from XIe century and registered on the inventory of the historic buildings,
- the church of Saint-James today in ruin,
- the oratorical pastoral located at the crossing of the street of the Boat and the road of Pomas is a religious monument of Gothic style dating from the 12th century intended for the Prière. This monument is classified with the additional inventory of the historic buildings on February 12th 1926. Its restoration was carried out under the mandate of François Barrabes, Maire. This monument would be a crossing point for the pilgrims going to Saint-Jacques-with-Compostelle since fourteen shells are carved on the cross. It is as possible as this monument was set up to help with the dangerous passage of the driving ford to a vault. It is a rare monument in France. It was restored in 1859 then the roof was remade in 1968.
Personalities related to the commune
- Fortuné Labatut-Bush is the first republican deputy of the Aude elected in 1871. It left all its fortune to the poor of Pieusse. Its residence became the current town hall. It accommodated also the school and the dwelling house of the teacher.
- Antoine Mestre, poet, cantor of the soil and native. He dies during the Second world war.
- Joseph Delteil is a known writer who was born in Pieusse in 1898, settled in Paris in 1920 then in 1937 with the Tilery of Massanne with Grabels close to Montpellier where he lived until his death in 1978 in company of his Caroline wife. It will be buried with the cemetery of Pieusse.
