Pietro Romualdo Pirotta
Pietro Romualdo Pirotta is a Naturaliste Italy N, born with Pavia in 1853 and died in Rome in 1936.
Biography
Registered voter initially at the university of medicine of Pavia, it is then registered with that of Natural science where it is graduate on July 29th, 1875. He receives a station to teach the natural science in the college of Pistoia, he prefers to work at the laboratory of Mycologie, an appendix of the Institute of botany of the Université of Pavia.In 1879, it obtains a price to continue its studies at the institute of mycology of the Université of Strasbourg. Returned to Italy, it makes a success of the contests giving access to him stations the Université of Sassari and with that of Modena, it chooses the latter and directs there, moreover the botanical garden.
In 1883, the minister of state Guido Baccelli (1832-1916) offers to him the direction of the department of botany of the university of Rome, function which it preserves until 1928. He is at the origin of a new Institute of botany in the garden of the Couvent of San Lorenzo in Panisperna. He also founds the Annuaire of the royal Institute of botany of Rome (which will become into 1924 the Annali di Botanica ).
He becomes member of the delle Accademia nazionale scienze in 1910. In 1917, it militates for the creation of a natural park within association Pro-montibus and Sylvis . He becomes member in 1923 of the first departmental committee for the creation of the National park of the Abruzzi.
He was several times president-assistant and president of the Italian botanical Société.
Its scientific contribution
One distinguishes three distinct periods in his career. In the first it deals with research on microbiology and mushrooms by discovering amongst other things the Plasmopara viticola lately introduced in Italy. The second period is marked by its work in Histologie and in Physiologie of the seminal teguments, on the constitution Des. Enfin, it is interested in molecular biology, the transmission of the hereditary features and the genetics, without neglecting the Systématique flora as well Italian as African.
