Pietro Antonio Locatelli (Bergamo, September 3rd 1695 - Amsterdam, March 30th 1764) was a Violoniste virtuoso and Compositeur Italy N.

He was the pupil of Corelli to Rome where he lived ten years.

After having exerted its talent in several European countries (one saw it with Venice, with Berlin, Kassel…) it is definitively established with Amsterdam in 1729 and founded there a school for the string instruments to which it entrusted the first executions of its works.

The main thing of its production is intended for the Violon and its most important work is the Arte del Violino , opus 3 which gathers 12 Concerto S and 24 capriccios, parts of virtuosity which could be used as prolonged rate and which nowadays are often played independently.

He also wrote Sonate S for violin, 12 concerti enlarged with 4 and 5 with Fugue S (1721), a collection of sonatas for Flûte (Opus 2), of the scenic introductions.

Its first style is inspired by Corelli, later, it evokes more that of Vivaldi. Its violonistic technique does of them one of the most important experts of this instrument and a precursor of Paganini.
