Pietro Consagra
Pietro Consagra (born the October 6th 1920 with Mazara del Vallo - died the July 16th 2005 with Milan) is a sculptor Italy N known for its bronze and iron sculptures mainly.
It was born in Mazara del Vallo, a small town of the Province of Trapani, in the Western part of the Sicily. His/her father is a hawker with the sufficient incomes to make it enter to the delle Accademia Belle Arti . Consagra moves in Rome in the years 1940 to found a group called there " Formed " who works on the abstract art. He is the author of a test entitled Necessità beyond will scultura ( need for the sculpture ) in 1952.
Its art starts to be largely known starting from the middle of the years 1950 and was everywhere exposed in the world, in particular with the Peggy Guggenheim Collection of Venice. Consagra gains the Grand Prix of the sculpture to the Biennale de Venise of 1960. Its work is also presented in many European cities of which Rome and Strasbourg.
During the years 1980, Consagra returns to Sicily where it carries out a big number of sculptures in particular iron doors representing of the " sculptures bidimensionnelles". With the senator Ludovico Corrao, it in the open air creates a museum on the ruins of Gibellina, destroyed by the earthquake of 1968.
In 1980, he writes an autobiography entitled Vita Mia ( My life ), and publishes in 1985 a collection of poems entitled Ci penso Amo . Consagra died in July 2005 with Milan, and its last wish was to be buried in the museum with open sky of Gibellina.
