Piet Zwart

Piet Zwart (Zaandijk, May 28th 1885 - Wassenaar, September 24th 1977) was an industrial designor, Typographe and Photographe Dutch.

He began his career like Architecte and worked for Jan Wils and Berlage.

As designor, Zwart was recognized for its work for the Nederlandse Kabelfabriek Delft (factory of cable with Delft) and the Dutch post office, and for its role of precursor in the field of the Typographie. It did not adhere to the rule traditional of the typography, but used the principles of the constructivism in its commercial work. Its work is marked by the use of primary colors, the geometrical forms, and by the repetition of reasons text and the use of the Photomontage and the Photogramme S.

In 1923, it made the meeting of Lissitzky and Schwitters what upset its work. It made use of the frames for the first time in 1924 and its work of typographers remained marked by these meetings which gave a key dadaist and constructivist to work.

It carried out 275 designs in 10 years for company NKF, almost all were typographical work. It left its employment in 1933 to become designer of interior and photography becomes one of its principal tools.

Piet Zwart died at the 92 years age in 1977.
