Pierrick Sorin , born in 1960 with Nantes, is an artist plastics technician and vidéaste French.

Biography

Impassioned by the dumb Cinema of Buster Keaton and Méliès (for him a model of inventiveness), it enters to regional École of the Art schools of Nantes in 1983 then obtains there in 1988 the Diploma of the National school of the Art schools of Nantes.

Young person it will be tested with several disciplines like the Cartoon, the Photo or the animated image, but its wish to work with the movement and the word will very quickly carry out it towards the Vidéo.

He is follower of the car filming, and also of the characters of fiction incarnated by his own person. One finds in his films all the traditional ingredients of the entertainment: the disguise, the comic one of repetition and the gag of Music-hall, which makes them all the more familiar and accessible for the spectator. Nevertheless, it is necessary to see also there irony and derision, which aim at sometimes questioning the operation of the human being, sometimes the Art and the work of the artists. the alarm clocks
For one month, Pierrick Sorin is filmed with each alarm clock. He declares unceasingly that he is tired and each time promises himself to lie down earlier, but it is always also found tired the following day. Through this film, he testifies to a kind of daily failure that everyone is able to know.

1991

Vacancy
“In situ” installation - Zoo gallery and contiguous apartment of the artist, Nantes, France. The gallery is empty, but, by an optical judas placed in a partition, one can look in the artist. He let a video band turn on a television set: It is learned that it is on vacation until the end of the exposure.
