History
Old medieval village, of which the first appearances in the writings go back to the 11th century. Petrafoci, Petrafog, Rochafog and finally Pierrefeu-of-VAr, such are the names of the commune, with the wire of time. With belonged to various seigniories and counties, before being set up in Marquisat (17th century).
The name would come from the “stones to fires” or even the x-ray one, in the direction of hearths or families known as fires, with the census of the " feux" from 1471 then 69.
One does not find a flint in the Moors, but of the quarzites in abundance, white rocks which shocked one against the other, give a spark, therefore an effect of stone with fires, from where probably the name of the commune. Armorial bearings

The armorial bearings of Pierrefeu represent five flames spouting out of a stone. They are well “stones with Latin fires” in other words at the 8th century: will pietra foci , then at the 10th century, one finds name petrafoe meaning stone with fires.
History of Pierrefeu
Highest antiquity left traces on its territory where one can still see vestiges of several protohistoric enclosures: Castellas (342m), Peyrol (431m), the Four Terms (415m), become later a priory Benedictine and finally the David.
It seems that the territory of Pierrefeu extended on the site from the hill from Peigros, hill which culminates to 244 m, located in the north of the hill of Holy-Cross. Vestiges of occupation were found in the plain with the locality Chapelle Holy-Anne, between the current cities of Cuers and Pierrefeu.
It is following the wars of religion which devastated the village that this one is installed on the hill of Holy Cross.
Historically, the first origins of the commune date from the 11th century " Petrafoc" whose grounds belonged to the seigniory of the Viscounts of Marseilles. Until the revolution, the seigniory or ground of Pierrefeu was the property various families, noble or not, of Provence. Sometimes, several divided it simultaneously.
The ground of Pierrefeu was set up in marquisat by letters patent of November 1682, and recorded the next on December 1st with the Room of the accounts of Montpellier, in favor of Pierre Dedons, adviser at the Parliament.
In 1859, the heirs and descendants of the last seigneuriales families, brought a lawsuit against the population of the commune of Pïerrefeu. Indeed, they introduced to being “recognized exclusive owners of the grounds, gastes, ploughings, vines and olive-trees, wood, gasolines of fir trees, oaks lièges, oaks white, chestnuts… ”.
The applicants saw themselves déboutés and condemned at the expense by decision of the civil Court of Toulon dated April 2nd, 1859, decision confirmed in call, on August 9th, 1862, by a judgment of the imperial Court of Aix.
Lastly, one quotes the existence of the Savage of Pierrefeu, which lived six years in the forest, by nourishing plants.
courses of love in Pierrefeu
In many castles of Provence, of the year 1150 at the year 1200, the Great ladies and the Troubadours met to hand down judgments on the extreme questions of the love.
A true code of love was worked out, with which the rules, arrived to us, were full with smoothness, psychology, mischievousness too. The castle of Pierrefeu has the memory of two of these ladies which animated its Court of Love: Rostangue rams of Pierrefeu, Mabille de Fos rams of Hyères. One can add Bertrane to it rams Signs.
During the 20th century, Pierrefeu is affected by the two world wars, and accommodates the commercial airport and military, then the psychotherapy center which made the fame of the village in the neighborhoods.
Ground of traditions, proud of its past, but resolutely turned towards the future, Pierrefeu is also universally known for the quality of its wines A.O.C. Today, Pierrefeu is a tourist village, appreciated for its calm, far from the tumult of the great seaside resorts. The summer, from many festivities come to punctuate the evenings of June, July and August. Finally the traditional festivals of the village (release, soil, grape harvest, harvest festival and local festival) are the occasion to discover or redécouvrir the history and the traditions of the village, become today peaceful small town, whose reputation is not any more to make, so much on the level of the products of the soil than of its quality of life.
