Pierre de Rieux

Pierre of Rochefort or Pierre de Rieux (September 9th 1389 - 1439), lord of Rochefort, of Assérac, and of Derval. He was governor of Saint-Malo when he succeeded his father Jean II of Rieux in the load of Marshal of France on August 12th 1417.

He was in Paris in 1418 when the city was taken by the Burgundian ones. Relieved by those and maintained by the Dolphin Charles, regent of the kingdom, it led it to Bourges.

It fought the English in Angoumois, in Normandy and finally with the Mans where it was took in an exit. It paid its ransom and returned guerroyer to France.

In 1429, it took Avranches and assisted Jeanne d' Arc with the Siège of Orleans. In 1435, it defended Saint-Denis besieged by the English, began again to them Dieppe and forced them to raise the Siège of Harfleur.

In 1437, in.liaison.with the constable of Richemont it seized the Pays of Caux. In 1438, it fell to the hands from Guillaume de Flavy, ordering town of Compiegne and devoted to the English. Thrown in prison, he died of misery in 1439, after nine months of captivity.
