Pierre de Nolhac (December 15th 1859 with Ambert - January 31st 1936 with Paris) is a historian, historian of art and poet French.
After studies with Rodez and Clermont-Ferrand, it comes to Paris to follow courses to the Sorbonne and the practical École of the high studies where it will be later university lecturer. It is named preserving with the museum of Versailles in 1892, then directing of the Musée Jacquemart-Andre in 1920.
Its action with the museum of the castle of Versailles was determining, since it largely contributed to modernize this one and to reconstitute the collections, in particular for the furniture which had been dispersed during the French revolution.
Pierre de Nolhac left a very abundant work devoted in major part to the history, in particular with the Humanisme during the Renaissance. Indeed, member of the French School of Rome (1882-1885), it discovered with the Bibliothèque Vaticane new manuscripts of Pétrarque which enabled him to advance knowledge about it.
Pierre de Nolhac also devoted several works to the queen Marie-Antoinette and the Château of Versailles.
Its work as poet was rather largely recognized in its time, in particular by his/her friend the Italian poet Gabriele d' Annunzio. He is elected member of the French Academy in 1922.
