Pierre de Marca is a historian and French archbishop born with Gan (Yrénées-Atlantiques) the January 24th 1594 and dead the June 29th 1662. He was president of the Parlement of Navarre, the Council of Pau in 1621. Master of the requests in 1639.

But become widowed, it gave up justice for the dress of ecclesiastic in 1642. It is to advise of State, it becomes bishop of Couserans (Ariège) and later archbishop of Toulouse (1652).

In 1656, the mission is entrusted to him in company of the Orange bishop, to formalize the border separating the France and the Spain. For this purpose it gathers in a work named the sive Marca hispanica files hispanicus, hoc is, Geographica & historica descriptio Cataloniae, Ruscinonis, & circum jacentium populorum , published in Paris in 1668, of the documents drawn from the files of the principal monasteries and seigneuriaux chartriers of the area. Many these files disappeared today, which makes the work of Marca extremely useful for any historical research on the area.

It is named archbishop of Paris but it dies before being installed. It is also a historian.
