Pierre de Médicis

Pierre de Médicis , in Italian Pietro de' Medici , called it Gottoso , i.e. Goutteux , was born in 1416 with Florence, and deceased the December 2nd 1469 with Florence, at the 53 years age.

Biography

Wire of Cosme de Médicis and the Contessina de Bardi, Pierre does not have the intellectual and political scale of his father. He is however good diplomat what is worth to him the friendship of Louis XI (which grants to him three flowers of lily for the blazon of Médicis) and of the pope Paul II. He escapes a plot thanks to the support from Sforza and exiles his adversaries. Under its governorship, several seats of the bank know financial problems. He continues the work of patron of Cosme (he encourages the same artists, to which comes to be added Botticelli). He dies of the drop from which he suffered all his existence.

He married the June 3rd 1444 Lucrezia Tornabuoni, and had five children:

  • the Madonna of the Magnificat of Botticelli represents them with their mother in Madone and five angels .
  • in the frescos of the Vault of the Magi of Benozzo Gozzoli, the three girls are represented with horse.
