Pierre de Chevigné

Pierre de Chevigné (Toulon, June 16th 1909 - Biarritz, August 4th 2004) was a Colonel and Politician French, Minister for the IVe République and Compagnon of the Release.

He is elected appointed MRP (1945 - 1958) of the the Low-Pyrenees (auj. Yrénées-Atlantiques) to the First and the Second constituent National Assembly and the National Assembly and seat with the Palate-Bourbon during thirteen years. He is High-Commissioner with Madagascar in 1948-50, restores the order there after the events of 1947 what is worth to him the critical sharp of the Communists on his return to the Parliament.

During these functions, he makes an effort, in spite of the budgetary constraints, to improve the military condition, the maintenance of the buildings, the level of equipment and the management of the arsenals. He justifies the displacement of the Ecole of Saint-Cyr military school to Coëtquidan. He makes approve the assignment of the barracks of Fontenoy to UNESCO. He proposes the rise in Leclerc to the dignity of Marshal of France. He leaves the government with the fall of Diên-Biên-Phû. He criticizes Pierre Mendès France for his Tunisian and Moroccan policy but supports his policy in Algérie. He supports Guy Mollet during the forwarding of Suez and defends the rights of Israel.
Pierre de Chevigné decides in favor of European construction (the ECSC Treaties, CED, the EEC). He is caught some with Jean-Louis Tixier-Vignancour, candidate against him at the time of the elections of 1956 which will be however also elected. In 1958, he votes confidence with De Gaulle.
