Pierre de Chambrun

Charles Louis Antoine Pierre Gilbert Pineton de Chambrun is a lawyer and a politician French, born on June 11th, 1865 with Paris and dead on August 24th, 1954 with Marvejols, in Lozere.

Biography

Pierre de Chambrun is resulting from an old family of Lozere. He goes down from the general of Fayette, and its great-uncle, Joseph, Dominique, Aldebert de Chambrun, were appointed, then senator of the department him too. Pierre de Chambrun succeeds his father as counsel of the French embassy to the the United States, in 1892, and occupies this function during five years. He marries with Cincinnati on October 20th, 1895 Margaret Rives Nichols (August 18th, 1872 Cincinnati Marvejols July 31st, 1949). Nurse major of the auxiliary hospital of Marvejols in 1917, it was knight of the Légion of honor. From this marriage are born three children: Marthe married with prince Ruspoli, Jean-Pierre, painter, and Gilbert.

In 1898, after its return in France, he is elected appointed, and constantly re-elected, jusques and including in 1932. He sits with the republicans moderated until 1914. He is not registered during the following legislature, then seat with the republicans of left (group of the democratic Alliance of 1924 to 1928. During legislature 1928/1932, it belongs to the group of Independent, directed by Paul Reynaud. In 1932/1933, it is again independent, before approaching the popular Democratic party after its election with the Senate. During his parliamentary long career, Pierre de Chambrun belongs to many commissions of the Room and the Senate, as well as Franco-British, active parliamentary commission during the First World War.

July 9th, 1940, Pierre de Chambrun votes against the principle of a constitutional revision. He is the only senator to do it. The following day it is one of the eighty members of Parliament who vote against the full powerss with Philippe Pétain. He explains his vote thus: “Why still throw weapons with the feet of the Germany? Why throw the weapons of Freedom? ”

During the Second world war, it renders important services to the Résistance. It then sits at the provisional Consultative Assembly, then, eighty years old, withdraws political life.

His/her son Gilbert de Chambrun succeeds to him in 1946 like deputy of Lozere.
