Pierre Wittgenstein (January 17th 1769 with Pereslavl-Zalessky - June 11th 1843 with Lemberg) was a Russian marshal who fought Napoleon with Austerlitz in 1805 and with Friedland in 1807.
Born Count Louis Adolphe Pierre from Sayn-Wittgenstein-Ludwigsbourg , it went down from a family of independent counts living to Berleburg. His/her parents were the Count Christian Louis Casimir de Sayn-Wittgenstein-Ludwigsburg and his first wife, the Countess Amalie Ludowika Finck von Finckenstein.
In 1805, it took part in the Bataille of Austerlitz, it fought against the Turks in 1806, again against Napoleon in 1807 at the time of the Bataille of Friedland and against the Swedes in Finland.
At the time of the Campagne of Russia it ordered the right wing of the Russian army. In January 1813, it was named with the head of the Russian army after the death of Koutousov which it ordered from Lützen and with Bautzen. But after the defeats of the countryside in spring, it left this station and was named with the head of an army corps at the time of the battles Dresden and Leipzig, and it was seriously wounded with the Bataille of Bar-sur-Aube in 1814. In 1823, it was promoted marshal, and in 1828 ordering Russian army at the time of the Russo-Turkish Guerre. But its failing health obliged it to take its retirement. In 1834, the King of Prussia gave him the title of Fürst (Prince) zu Sayn-Wittgenstein.
The June 27th 1798, it Maria with the Countess Antonia Cäcilie Snarska with whom he had 11 children.
He died the June 11th 1843 in Lemberg, where he dealt with the businesses of his son Lev Petrovich.
