It was young, engineer Agronome of SOCFIN in Malaysia and it is by traversing the neighbouring regions that it piled up the matter and the decoration of his future novels. The SOCFIN had plantations of Hévéa S among largest of the world.

Work

Reception and perception of its work

Two of the novels of Pierre Boulle knew a world notoriety, thanks to their tographic adaptations Cinéma: the Bridge of the river Kwaï and the Planet of the monkeys (1963).

the Bridge of the river Kwaï obtained the Prix Holy-Beuve in 1952. Inspired one period of its life of engaged in the FFL, the novel and film of 1957 of David Lean, ensured the celebrity of Pierre Boulle.

the Planet of the monkeys knew many adaptations (telefilms, cinema (1967, by Franklin Schaffner and 2001 by Tim Burton), cartoons), none of them is not really faithful to the original. This work of Science-fiction calls in question the definition of the Humanité.

In 1976, for the whole of its work, Pierre Boulle accepted the Grand Prix of the Société of the Men of letters .

Pierre Boulle was, with Jacques Spitz and Rene Barjavel, the pioneer of the French science fiction. In a history written in 1949, One Night Interminable , published in the collection Tales of the Absurdity (1953), Pierre Swell cheek with the temporal paradoxes, with the manner of Barjavel in the Imprudent Traveller, showing an astonishing modernism. This collection is in addition the first collection of news of French science fictions.

It is one of the French authors most translated and most known abroad, more particularly in the United States where its novels were a great success, doped by the film adaptations of the Pont of the river Kwaï and the Planet of the Monkeys. It was thus the object of a literary study, Pierre Boulle of Lucille Frackman Becker, published at Twayne Publishers and ever translated into French.

For example, in the Televised series derived from X-Files The Lone Gunmen, in the episode Planet off the Frohikes , one finds the Boulle Behavioral Institute , in homage to the author of French science fiction. In addition, in episode 4 of the first season of X-Files ( Devil of the New Jersey ), one to arrange is called Peter Boulle .

Posthumous works

Five years after the death of Pierre Swell, his niece, whom it had raised like her own daughter, and her husband discovered new new manuscripts in the files of the author. Almost illegible, it was necessary to pass by again in twenty thousand pages discovered to restore them. At the conclusion of this tiresome work, a new novel left the lapse of memory: the Archeologist and the Mystery of Néfertiti, probably written between 1949 and 1951, and from now on appeared with the Seek-Midday in 2005, as well as new or ignored news, joined together in a collection: the Removal of the Obelisk .
