Pierre Scize (Lyon)
The Pierre Scize is a district of Lyon.
Origins
At the time Roman, one made cut the rock of Thune, which formed a projection in the the Saone, in order to arrange a way on Right Bank of the river. Thus the place it was called will petra incised , that is to say in French “hones encize” or “hones scize”.
The castle
The castle of Pierre Scize was a high and massive fortress, which was drawn up with a round tower placed on the culminating point of the rock.It had been high in 1226 by Renaud de Forez, archbishop of Lyon.
It became prison of state when the archbishops ceased living there.
It was demolished in 1791.
The door
With the bottom of the hill, along the Saone, the access to the castle was kept by the door of Pierre Scize, who opened on a long staircase cut in the rock.According to the habit, it is by the door of Pierre Scize that the kings entered their good town of Lyon since the fastening of Lyon to the kingdom of France in 1307.
The quay
The Pierre-Scize quay inspired his pseudonym with the journalist Pierre Scize.
