Pierre Samuel of the Bridge of Nemours , born in 1739 with Paris and died in 1817 with Eleutherian Millets (the United States), was a French contractor and economist.

In 1766, Bridge of Nemours married Charlotte Marie Louise Dée de Rencourt which was to give him two wire. It stuck to François Quesnay, of which it republishes several texts, in the Physiocracy (1768). It replaces officially the abbot Nicolas Baudeau with the head of the Éphémérides of the citizen in 1769.

It bound with Turgot, which called it close to him while it was General inspector of finances, shared its disgrace, then was recalled to the businesses by Vergennes, and was one of the writers of the Traité of Versailles of 1783, which put an end to the Guerre of independence of the United States of America.

It is there that it will become acquainted with Thomas Jefferson which was to help it at the time of its installation to the the United States. In thanks of his action, the king Louis XVI granted a license of nobility to him and authorized it to join of Nemours to its name of origin of the Bridge .

Deputy in 1789 with the General states by the bailliage of Nemours, it is initially in favor of the French revolution, and was useful in 1790 like chair constituent National Assembly. He voted the most important reforms, but he incurred the anger of the people to have fought the creation of the Assignat S and to be themselves shown faithful to Louis XVI.

He and his/her son Éleuthère was those which defended Louis XVI physically and Marie Antoinette of a crowd besieging the Palais of Tileries to Paris during the insurrection of the August 10th 1792. He was condemned to the guillotine at the time of the Terreur but its execution not having taken place yet when Robespierre fell the Thermidor 9, he was saved. He married Francoise Robin the 5 Vendémiaire year IV (September 27th 1795).

After its house was plundered in the year V (1797) during the events of the 18 Fructidor, him and its family exiled itself with the the United States in year VII (1799).

Pierre of the Bridge of Nemours developed in the United States of the strong bonds with industry and the government, in particular with Thomas Jefferson. Of return in France under the Directory, it was Conseil of the Five hundred. In 1802, it engaged in the Diplomatie between France and the United States during the reign of Napoleon.

It was at the origin of the purchase of Louisiana by the United States in 1803, compromised intended to avoid conflicts between the French and American populations on the spot, but, especially, to give again in Napoleon the means of rebuilding a fleet and of countering the England in Europe. In 1814 it was named secretary of the provisional government. Having been favorable to the banishment of Napoleon to the isle of Elba in 1814, it is exiled again in the United States during the Hundred Days, during the re-establishment of Napoleon.

Dupont de Nemours left a crowd of works on the economy, the policy, physiology, the natural history, general physics.

In addition to Physiocracy , it there a:

• a verse translation of the furious Roland ;
• of interesting reports on Turgot.

It wrote some time the Journal of agriculture . It had been named member of the Institut of France as of its foundation.

His/her son, Éleuthère Irenee, founded a powder factory which was going to become one of the more large companies in the world, the E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company.

A second wire, Victor-Marie Dupont () (1767 - 1827), carried out a diplomatic career and, inter alia, was appointed French consul in the United States.
