Pierre Samot

Pierre-Jean Samot , French politician, born the August 21st 1934 with Fort-de-France in Martinique. He is mayor of Lamentin since 1989.

Pierre Samot is a craftsman mason with the retirement and former member of the Communist party Inhabitant of Martinique (PCM). He begins his political career near the former mayor from Lamentin, Georges Gratiant, of which he becomes the 1st assistant of 1983 to 1989. In 1987, he is elected general adviser then in 1989, mayor of Lamentin.

In 1998, following désacords with Georges Erichot, secretary-general of the PCM, it founds with some dissidents his political own party Bâtir the country Martinique. In 1995, Pierre Samot is put in examination for favoritism, corruption and trading of favors within the framework of the business " markets publics" town hall of Lamentin. But in spite of its legal contentions, he arrives has to be made réélir with plume mayor of Lamentin with 84,66% of the voices.

With the regional elections of 1998, the dissenting list " To build the Martinique" country; led by Pierre Samot obtains 4 seats at the District council. The 4 elected officials of the list vote in block in favor of Alfred Marie-Jeanne at the time of the election of the President.

The June 16th 2002, Pierre Samot was elected appointed in the 3rd district of the Martinique, by beating the outgoing deputy, Camille Darsières. But its election was invalidated by the Constitutional council on February 27th, 2003 and it was replaced by its substitute Philippe Edmond-Mariette.

With the regional elections of March 2004, its list " Alliance for the Martinique" country; obtain 19.994 votes and it amalgamates with the second turn with that led by Madeleine de Grandmaison of the PPM. Pierre Samot, building contractor of his state was also president of the Guild chamber of Martinique during several years.
