Pierre Charles Fournier of Saint-Lover , born in 1800 with Monflanquin (Lot-et-Garonne), in France and died in 1872 with Hydra, in Algérie) was a player of failures French. He is regarded as the strongest world player of 1840 to 1843.

Biography

After the death of Louis of Bourdonnais in 1840, Saint-Lover with the reputation to be the best player of failures of France, but is far from being also strong.

He is initially secretary of the governor of Guinea, until he protests against the trade of Esclave S. After that, he tries his chance as actor, but is success as wine merchant, then becomes captain in the National guard during the revolution of 1848.

In 1843, the English Howard Staunton exceeds it with the failures. He gains the first with London: 3.5-2.5, but at the time of a match revenge to Paris, it loses over 13-8. This second match is sometimes regarded as a championship of the not-official world of failures.

In 1851, he becomes consul of California.

Saint-lover is in Paris in 1858 when Paul Morphy visits him. In 1861, Saint-Lover leaves in Algérie to spend his years of retirement there. He dies there in 1872 following an accident.
