Pierre Rosenberg

Biography

Pierre Rosenberg made all his career with the Musée of Louvre, like conservative, then of president-director of 1994 with 2001. Large expert of the European painting of the Modern times, it is recognized like one of the international specialists in Nicolas Poussin. He was elected with the French Academy, on December 7th, 1995, with the armchair of Henri Gouhier (23e armchair).

Pierre Rosenberg taken refuge during the German occupation in the Lot-et-Garonne and in the Gironde with his parents (lawyer) made his secondary studies with the Charlemagne college in Paris. Member of the French Academy, Pierre Rosenberg is foreign member of American Academy off Arts and Sciences, of American Philosophical Society (Philadelphia), honorary fellow of Royal Academy (London), foreign member of Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei and Accademia Nazionale di San Luca, as well as Accademia del Disegno (Florence), of Accademia Pietro Vanucci (Perugia), of Ateneo Veneto (Venice), Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ED Arti (Venice) and of Accademia Clementina (Bologna).

XVII ème and XVIII ème centuries

The drawing and the French and Italian painting of XVIIe and XVIIIe centuries were its principal centers of interest which gave place to books and erudite articles. It published the catalogs reasoned of the drawings of Chick, Watteau and David, in collaboration with Louis-Antoine Prat.
