Pierre Robert Olivétan
Pierre Robert Olivétan (born towards 1506, died in 1538), was the author of the first translation Protestante of the Bible in French.
Its translation rested on that of its Master, Jacques Lefèvre d' Étaples, was published in 1535 with Neuchâtel under the title the Bible Which is all Saincte scripture , accompanied by a Préface in Latin of Jean Calvin, his cousin. It is known today under the name of Bible Olivétan .
It is him which introduced the term “the Eternal” to translate the Tétragramme יהוה , or YHWH of the Hebraic Bible.
The work of Olivétan was the base of the Bible of Geneva of Jean Calvin, in 1560, then of its revision in 1588 by Theodore de Bèze and Bertrand.
