Pierre Of the Vines
Pierre Of the Vines , Pelrusa Vineis , chancellor of Frederic II of the Holy roman Empire, born with Capoue towards 1190, of a poor family.
It rose by its knowledge and its talents, acquired the greatest credit under the emperor Frederic II, improved the legislation and the administration; excited Frederic to make himself independent of the popes, and upset highly by this control the court of Rome. Frederic however ends up believing himself betrayed by him, showed it to have wanted to poison it, and ordered to burst the eyes to him: Pierre Of the Vines, in his despair, broke the head against the walls of his prison (1246).
It was generally thought that it was innocent. There is under his name a collection of Lettres , published for the first time in 1566, and often reprinted, but for the majority, the authenticity is disputed.
