Pierre Nothomb

Pierre, baron Nothomb (Turned, on March 28th, 1887 - 1966) is a writer and a Belgian politician .

A village of the area of Arlon bears its name (Nothomb) but that does not explain the attachment of Pierre Nothomb to the Ardenne, because the writer was born with Tournai on March 28th, 1887 (it went until disguising the name of the place of his birth as Tournay which is a small village of Ardenne close to Verlaine, which, altogether is also a literary connotation, not arbitrary (“With the country of my father, it is of wood without number… ”).

A prestigious family

His/her father is to advise at the Court of Appeal. He goes down from a family of servants of the State (youngest child of the National congress, Jean-Baptiste Nothomb was minister, and a savage partisan of the Unionisme). He is twenty years old hardly when he signs his first writings (in particular the Dead , an act in worms, going back to 1907). History, the policy, the Bible

Pierre Nothomb also seems the figurehead of the nationalist movements born the shortly after the First World War. In 1919, It founds the Committee of National policy (C.P.N.): it gathered generals, business men, lawyers, men of letters, politicians (and even some Socialists). But the passion for this first movement grows blurred quickly after the failure of the plans of annexation of Limbourg and Luxembourg. Nothomb turns more and more to the problems of interior policy with a speech resolutely of right-hand side. Its nationalism then loses the majority of its first members, and it tries to compensate for this loss of influence by an increasingly violent speech. It is accordingly that the National action will be created. It is at the beginning of 1924 that Pierre Nothomb and his friends found the federation of National action with for objective federating the various nationalist bunches. The first number of the National action, which succeeds the Policy like body of the C.P.N., appears on April 12th, 1924 and intends to influence the Belgian interior political life. The tendency, it, is with Catholicism authoritative, tinted maurrassism and of nationalism corradinien. The weekly magazine is characterized by a savage hostility towards the parliamentary democracy. It is on August 9th, 1930 that the last number of the National action appears. The troops of Nothomb is exhausted then quickly. When Nothomb engages its faithful last, often of liberal origin, to join the catholic party and its Young Guards, it is the rout.
