Pierre Nkurunziza
Pierre Nkurunziza (December 18th 1964, Ngozi, Burundi) is a politician Burundian, with the head of the Forces for the defense of the democracy (FDD). Former minister for the good governance and the general inspection of the State of the transition government of the president Domitien Ndayizeye, it was elected like new president the August 19th 2005.
The FDD were before all the military main movement Hutu fighting against the capacity Tutsi places from there since independence.
Nkurunziza belonged to the signatories, with the president Pierre Buyoya, of the peace agreement of Arusha marking the end of the Burundian civil war in 2000. The November 16th 2003, the FDD sign an agreement with the government tutsi to set up political one transitional period towards the return of the democracy. The FDD are transformed then into political party. The FDD gains the legislative elections of the July 4th 2005. The National Assembly and the Senate which of it come elect Nkurunziza chair on August 19th, 2005. It must lend oath the August 26th. 162 members of Parliament voted for Nkurunziza, 9 against and there were 2 abstentions. He was the only candidate but needed 151 votes to be able to take his functions. This poll constituted the final stage of an ambitious peace process. He is Hutu member of the ethnos group whereas the political life was dominated a long time by the minority Tutsi.
Youth
His/her father is governor of the provinces of Kayanza and Ngozi where the family was established. In 1965, after the fall of monarchy, it is elected at the Parliament of the new republic. It will be killed in 1972, at the time of the genocidary massacres which make nearly 100.000 dead in a few weeks. Pierre is only 8 years old and grows in a mixed district where the two communities were not separated by yet the massacres from the Années 1990. Sportsman, it is called Black Panther because of his interest for the movements of emancipation of the American Blacks. Not being able to become officer, it will be in 1991 professor of gymnastics at the university.
Rebellion
In 1995, sought by killers, it joined the rebellion of FDD earlier, created two years after the assassination of Melchior Ndadaye the October 21st 1993, the first Hutu president of the country. After a few months of guerilla, it is seriously wounded but escapes from it. It is very since then believing and his wife is in relation to Protestant churches American and Australia which does not support its cause financially.Nkurunziza is condemned to died in 1996 (1997 or 1998 by Burundian justice for its responsibility in the installation for mines anti-tank device having made tens of died in the Bujumbura capital in 1995.
Following the agreements of Arusha and the agreement of cease-fire of 2003, Nkurunziza is temporarily amnestied.
It rises in the hierarchy and with the complicity of Hussein Radjabu and takes the head of the FDD in 2001.
