Pierre Montet

Pierre Montet is a French Egyptologist, born on June 27th, 1885 with Villefranche-sur-Saône (the Rhone), deceased on June 18th, 1966 with Paris ({{XIIIe}}).

Pierre Montet was raises with the French Institut of oriental archeology of the Cairo.

The capital discoveries of Tanis, made between 1939,1940 and 1946, will be worth more the great honors to him of the scientific community.

It updates to several inviolate tombs Pharaons and dignitaries of ancient Egypt: the Pharaons Heqakheperrê Setepenrê Sheshonq {{II}} () in March 1939, then Psousennès {{Ier}} () in February 1940, like that of the Oundebaouended general, contemporary of Psousennès 1st in 1946. These inviolate tombs contained a treasure of an exceptional value, comparable with the treasure of Toutânkhamon.

This treasure of Tanis is exposed mainly with the Egyptian Musée of Cairo. Many parts resulting from the excavations of the Montet mission are visible with the Musée of Louvre.

It has to teach with the Collège de France, is elected with the Institut of France (Académie of the inscriptions and the humanities) which it chairs in 1963, year of tercentenary of this institution.
