Pierre Monatte was a workman of the book and Syndicaliste French, born in 1881 and deceased the June 27th 1960.

It was one of the persons in charge of the CGT at the beginning of the century, of which it will found the review the working Life the October 5th 1909. Opposed to the Sacred union, he resigns into 1915 of the confederal authorities. Referring to Fernand Pelloutier, it did not hide its anarchistic sympathies , but moved away from this current after the Congrès of Amsterdam (1907). He is regarded as one of the great figures of the revolutionary Syndicalisme.

Leader of the internal opposition, it creates in April 1919 the revolutionary Comités trade unionists within CGT.

He joined the PCF in 1923, where he is close to Boris Souvarine and Alfred Rosmer. Like the latter, it is excluded at the end of 1924 during a purging from the " gauche" party. It founds then in January 1925 the review the proletarian Revolution, which was to keep a certain audience " morale" to the trade unionists and militants of left enters the two wars.
