Pierre Molaine (pseudonym of Léopold Faure ) is a French writer.

Biography

Born with Voiron (Isere), the April 29th 1906. Died with Lyon, the October 17th 2000. Writer out of the standards and the beaten paths, with its dires, by all “ ruffians of the literature ”.

From a modest family, Pierre Molaine passed his youth in the town of Thiers " fixed on the rocks by the nails of time " , city that his/her parents had joined, his/her father exerting there the function of professor of college. Raise shining and very early turned towards the literature, at the 18 years age, it gained Paris to follow there a university education of Letters and Right. In 1924, it signs its first article on Henry Bordeaux.

Named supernumerary of the Recording, he resigns very quickly of the administration of Finances which cannot satisfy a character violate and impassioned like his and incorporates, in 1927, the 13th Battalion of Alpine hunters of Chambéry, integrates the same year the Military academy of Saint-Maixent and sees himself affected in 1928 with the 92e regiment of Infantry of Clermont-Ferrand.

After two years of study at the Military academy of the Infantry and Tanks, it is named lieutenant of active.

The death of his/her father in 1935 affects it deeply and contributes certainly to the maturation of the first work which it will publish under the pseudonym of Yvan Kalinine , in 1938, human Frères (Corréa Editions). This collection of new carries the print of the recently lived experiments, but already takes shape the author enthusiast of a sought style, attache with the expression of feelings violent one falling under the evocation of a savage nature.

The declaration of war will lead it to Lunéville, as officer associated with the commander of the park of tanks of Ve Armée, in the circumstance the colonel Charles de Gaulle, " a disproportionate colonel of tanks in jacket of leather fawn-coloured and white gloves ". Molaine will keep this man a very strong impression which it will restore, not without an obvious ironic distance, in its novel Blood (Calmann-Levy Editions, 1967). All exuberance, strength, the creative rage of the author made there day in the setting in thundering, high scene in colors, bouffonne and amused of de Gaulle, a scorning colonel that the officers do not carry in their heart and whose only stature throws a cold. One feels how much this man could exasperate by his pride this very young captain, but also to impress it by its intelligence and its authority. The meal at the colonel, the visit of the colonel, the stories of the colonel, and very quickly also the myth of the colonel, here who gives to the first account of this novel an indisputable and irreplaceable value of document. True epic fresco and much more than one simple novel, Blood is a book where the author endeavoured to paint characters, portraits of men related ones to the others by the fraternity of the weapons, the presence of dead and an invincible fidelity towards oneself. Moreover, if the book make it possible to meet colonel de Gaulle under one day relatively ignored - that of the military command - it also makes it possible to foresee other personalities côtoyées by the author, like Pierre Laval, the Father Teilhard of Chardin, lord of the manor of Orcines, and finally another lieutenant, incorporated, who had a " invaluable manner " to hold its fork and to eat radishes, Georges Pompidou, called " trissottinet". Blood is a newspaper of war, a newspaper made up of images - caustics, picturesque and painful - on the war and the Resistance, which they evoke in a very personal way. Blood is also a book in favor where the element of fiction does not have, at the bottom, which a subordinate role. The French academician Pierre-Henri Simon carried on work the following judgment: " a tightened language, shining,… gives to the account, and sometimes even with the dialogs, a literary elegance which returns almost to the tale voltairien, with the news mériméenne, in any case with traditional the " (Newspaper Le Monde , May 19th, 1967).

After the defeat, Molaine was affected with the command of the 18th regiment of Infantry with Tarbes, then in 1941, with the central Establishment of Cavalry to Lyon. It is in this city that he wrote Samson is thirsty (Corréa Editions, 1943) and Violences (Corréa Editions, 1944). This last novel whose leads were destroyed by the German authority of occupation obtained voices in Goncourt. In Samson is thirsty , Molaine reports us horrifying it and truculent confession of a refractory with half insane, enemy of all and initially of itself, persecuted and assoiffé of God, but the officer of tank will re-appear in Violences whose hero is a man of fighting, which does not like that the adventure, the permanent search for a meeting with the death which he saw " naked, which laughed on the red grounds where the blood of the men " smoked;. It is of this book that Emile Henriot will say: " If there is a Goncourt price to distinguish, here is a prize winner very found " (Newspaper Le Monde , February 21st, 1945). This book was published besides in serial by the newspaper Combat in 1951.

With Battles to die (Corréa Editions, 1945), Pierre Molaine again introduces us into the epopee of the armor-plated weapon, that of the values which illustrate a made spirit of sacrifice, virtues, traditions. Molaine reports to us with the innate gift of the storyteller, in a thick language, tasty by its greenness, tonic and sometimes even eloquent, the life of the steel monsters which were the tanks, but as the very emotional relation as the men - noble or bastards - could maintain with them: " It is my tank, my work, my creature, which I worked with my own way through loves and of care. I did not build it my hands, I do not have Petri his metal, and am I even foreign with the choice of his name, but I it very accommodated nine, very restive, all still impregnated the odors of the factory, I washed it his skins, of his slags, sweats and burs of the extraordinary childbirth from which it resulted. I did it mien, I gave him a heart, a pride, a personality … "

Battles to die and Violences constitute a kind of apology for the bravery, included/understood and lived like an essential virtue which exempts of all the others. In Of White vêtu (Corréa Editions, 1945), Molaine refines the portrait of these crews of tanks, simple and large heroes, who made the oath, at the dawn of an attack, never not to miss with their friendship. Gallery of legend and glory, funeral gallery also, because death makes rich harvest among the crews. Then came Mort from Man (Corréa Editions, 1946), a long news rather than a novel. Molaine draws us an image of the modern hero: a being of an elegant brutality which cultivates with an ingenuous pride, until in the way of the sacrifice, martyrdom, an always scornful attitude. The obsession of the size, Christian, famished young man of heroism, being in the middle pure, will live it until the sacrifice which will make him find in death the promise that the life makes the heroes. Since the incredible pages of the beginning of the Human condition of Andre Malraux, where Tchen believes capacity to be delivered itself by the murder of a deadened man, few novels had known to restore with as much truth the incapacity of a man to conceive than is death, particularly in this chapter where the hero, hidden in a pipe of irrigation, awaits the passage of the tank which undoubtedly will crush it.

After the publication of High Works (Corréa Editions, 1946), Pierre Molaine will be named as engineer of the Body of the Material and will reach the rank of commander.

It is the time of a fertile friendship with the novelist Charles Plisnier.

The year 1950 will make of Molaine the prize winner of the Renaudot Price, with the Organ of the Hell (Corréa Editions). The argument of this novel appears only in the twenty last pages: it is about a political agitator who, sought by the police force, found refuge in the section of neuropsychiatry of a large hospital. Nothing distinguishes it from the other patients and one could not disentangle, the closed again book, up to what point its mental derangement true or was simulated. But the essence of work holds in the alarming atmosphere which reigns there and which leaves sourdre envoûtement oppressive beauty. " I was in a military hospital, and it is there that I met my characters. I believe that my work is halfway between the novel and the report, a fiction deliberated in an atmosphere on disorder, but where men live whom I knew ". The work evokes by many aspects musical texture with refrains, prayers and calls. It, traced there there in a prose of a discrete lyricism, pages of a glare without failure.

Before his assignment with the direction of the 7th military region, in 1953, Pierre Molaine will have time to give to a new novel Holy Cimetière Medard (Corréa Editions, 1952), also dedicated to him to violence, terrible, with furious, since it start with a dying blind man, an idiotic child, a Russian colossus, and finishes with the worst. Novel " littéraire" if it is, where each sentence is looked after, because the author awaits each one which it spreads by itself and for itself the drama which it wishes. Completely contrary romantic design with the literary economy of the novels of Albert Camus or Jean-Paul Sartre, because at Molaine, the heroes correspond to the idea that one is done some: they speak like heroes, live like such and die in the same way. All out of gold or very out of lead, the characters of Molaine concern the character-limit and lean only one side.

The pangs of the disease will force Pierre Molaine to temporarily stop his active service in the army. Perhaps this debilitating context it made of him the author of a test on the Blessed Virgin entitled the route of the Virgin Mary (Corréa Editions, 1952). In this work, the author invites us to a pilgrimage on the steps of the Virgin, with the wire of the various places of his appearances. " Tant by innate solicitude for all that is human than in the name of the divine mission of which it is invested, Marie holds for pleasant, or convenient, or necessary, to occur sometimes on our ground, in significant forms, in marked places, thus attesting her presence, vigilant with our miséricordieux sides, and her attachment with our cause… Her appearances, moreover intermittent and rare, always authenticated by a flowering of wonders, mark out the mysterious route which its immaculate feet register, century after century, on our sad sphere… ". The book will profit from the imprimatur , even if the clergy of time did not see without a certain simple mistrust laic seizing such a subject.

The accesses of spirituality which fed the inspiration of Molaine it led to the drafting of a work to the meaning title, Satan like the lightning (Corréa Editions, 1955), whose critic Rene LALOU will say in the Nouvelles arts persons (April 28th, 1955) that " the success (in) is nearly perfect " : a musician, mislaid by her gifts and its beauty, recruit of perversity, a lawyer famous, ready to become an also famous politician who leaves envoûter by prestige of this young fury, an ascetic, friendly priest of lawyer and half-brother of the musician, assassinated by this one who hated it, thus revealing with lawyer an unexpected monastic vocation.

During the year 1958 Molaine will leave the army definitively and will integrate the administration of State education. Tardily become professor de Lettres and thus joining again with the contents of its academic works first, it will perhaps draw from its function the topic of I dreamed of light (Editions Calmann Levy, 1963). It is not without reason that criticisms compared this novel with the pastoral Symphony of Gide, taking into consideration topic: " a small teacher of nothing the whole " , kind of saint laic sacrifices his life for a child plugs and will give up the love with its intention.

the Meat (Editions Calmann Levy, 1965), with the provocative title, will constitute the last but one delivers published of Molaine: a professor of university is dying and he imagines his death and his funerals, occasion for him to bore up to date a tragi-comic reality, that where are at a cheap rate moved a wife by tragedy and quartets of discredited nephews.

It is with Blood (Calmann-Levy Editions, 1967) that the official literary production of Molaine will be completed.

Curious destiny that of this modest man who always kept away from the operations from the strategy literary specific to certain Parisian mediums from the edition that it exécrait. It leaves behind him a work rich, powerful, impassioned characters, an unrestrained search of the size, even in the Evil. Unfinished work since, if Molaine had definitively broken with the literature in the years 1970, it continued, in the loneliness of its retirement, as much as the taste him came from there, an activity of regular writing and several manuscripts, as the Scrubland burns , the Love is dream , the Eye with the brown butter sauce remain new to date. Can scholars editors, like enquiring scholars, to return to this designer, with the eloquence sometimes enivrante, all the place which returns to him and which it should never have left in the literature of the 20th century.
